You may be part of my family. You may be my friend (which, by default, makes you part of my family). You may be a friend of a friend, a neighbor of family, the business associate of a friend of a neighbor of my parents. Regardless of who you are, you have taken it upon yourself to join me in my journey across this amazing, beautiful planet, and I can’t thank you enough.
It turns out that there are quite a lot of you. The number of visitors to my blog during the first half of 2007 while I was crossing South America was a huge shock to me. All of these people are interested in the same thing that I am? They really care about what I am doing, who I am meeting? You enjoyed my stories (however badly typed) and marveled at the pictures, traveling along with me down roads that neither one of us had ever imagined could exist. The extent of support during my first five month foray into the world of blogging went so well that I wanted to take things a little further for this trip. I want provide not only stories but put some real effort into creating something that will not only entertain, but give something back to the reader as well.
I have spent so much of my times traveling to new places, meeting new people, and receiving an absolute overload of hospitality and kindness. So how do I thank both my readers and the world at large? How do I make it possible for the people traveling along with me virtually to help those in the world that need it most? My answer lies in both the magic of internet advertising and the hands of a wonderful charity called MercyCorps.
I am going to put as much effort as I can into creating a better written, more often updated, more informative blog (each post usually takes me around 3 hours, paid for by the minute at internet cafes). Hopefully this will keep you coming back, keep you telling others about this blog, and hence generate more traffic. The proceeds from my sponsors, postcard sales, and donation revenue earned through this site will be shared with MercyCorps relief and education programs. Don’t know who they are? Check them out at MercyCorps.org.As I get my site together not only will there be more content but also more ways to become involved, either through direct donation, buying postcards, or even going as far as working with a volunteer or charity relief organization yourself.
