Are you heading to South Africa and looking for The Best Budget-Friendly Adventures in Cape Town? Check out this list of cheap activities.
One thing I loved about visiting Cape Town was how affordable it is. Their currency known as ‘Rand’ goes far with the American dollar.
I took Uber rides everywhere, anything from 15-20-minute rides for literally $3 US.
You can even get a good meal at one of the nicest restaurants for $10 a person.
But are there excursions reasonably priced? Some are! You just have to find the right ones.
I’ve put together a list of not only the most fun activities you can do in Cape Town but also The Best Budget-Friendly Adventures in Cape Town.
The Best Budget-Friendly Adventures in Cape Town
You could probably still do all of these activities and still stay on budget in Cape Town. And while there are much cheaper adventures available, these are the top “must see and do” things in Cape Town that are still on a budget.
1 – Table Mountain, Penguins & Cape Point Small Group Tour from Cape Town –
With this tour, you get to see the colorful houses of Bo Kaap (which is ideal to do with a group if you are a solo traveler), ride the cable car up and down Table Mountain, go on a scenic drive along Chapman’s Peak, and visit the penguin colony of Boulder’s Beach.
These are pretty much some of the most popular adventures in Cape Town. I love that it includes transportation so you don’t need to think about how to get to and from each location.
It also includes the drive along Chapman’s Peak Road which can only be seen by hiring or renting a car.

2 – Big-Five Safari + Breede River Valley Guided Day Trip
No one wants to come to South Africa without going on a safari! With this adventure, you get to see the big 5 on an actual South African Safari, all while doing it as a day trip from Cape Town.
This is a great choice for anyone wanting to go on a safari but has limited time. The transportation is included and will pick you up right from your hotel.
This tour also includes two other stops, one at a winery. Even if you are not a wine drinker, the wineries in South Africa are gorgeous and very scenic so I loved that this was included in the safari stop (one less thing to pay for !).

3 – Cape Town Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour with Optional Cruise
The Hop-On Hop-Off Bus was one of my favorite activities while visiting South Africa and also one of the Best Budget-Friendly Adventures in Cape Town
For only $16 per person, you get to get on and off this bus as many times in one day as you like. You are provided with headphones so that you can enjoy learning things about the different areas you are traveling through.
You can stop at some of Cape Town’s best attractions like the Botanical Gardens, Camps Bay, Hout Bay, Table Mountain, and even a wine route to go some wine tasting at the wineries. And since it circles almost every part of Cape Town, it’s super easy to hop on right near your hotel or Airbnb.

4 – Zip-lining in Cape Town – Based at the Foot of the Table Mountain Reserve
Adventure seekers will love this activity! Go zip-lining right near the foot of Table Mountain. So not only do you get the action of zip-lining but it’s done with the most amazing views.
The location makes it super easy to get to compared to other zip-lining companies and can easily be accessed by an Uber from anywhere in Cape Town. The price compared to zip-lining anywhere else in the world is super affordable.
You get to enjoy 7 different cables to zip down along with several platforms that also give you an amazing view of downtown Cape Town.

5 – Full-Day Franschhoek Hop On Hop Off Wine Tram Tour from Cape Town
This is for all the wine fans visiting Cape Town! South Africa is known for its wineries. Not only for the wine itself but most of these wineries are located in some of the most scenic areas of South Africa.
I love this tour because it includes transportation to and from Cape Town, especially since this tour is located in an area where it would be hard to get an Uber.
You can visit as many different wineries as you choose. Sample different wines, meats, and cheeses and even enjoy a lunch along the way. And the tram itself is super cute and makes for great photo opportunities!
